Lighted Vampire Bat Ornament - Crochet Pattern


He may look like a Fly-By-Night character, but he lights it up instead. Let's add this sweet Vampire Bat to the lighted ornaments collection. Great for Halloween, but cute enough, you'll want to keep him hanging around all year.

Scrap amounts of any worsted weight #4 yarn.



US Size G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook
Battery-operated tea light
2 - 10 mm wiggle eyes (optional)
3D fabric paint – red, white & black
Craft glue
Stitch marker
Yarn needle




2 1/4" x 6 1/4" 


4 sc and 4 rows = 1”
Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

STITCH ABBREVIATIONS (special stitches are listed in the next section)
ch = chain 
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet


Picotch 3, Insert hook into back of first chain made. (the one at the bottom, closest to the work), yo, pull up a loop. Picot made.

Bat to the Bone Crochet Pattern - $5.00

Easy-to-use charts and the waistcoat stitch make colorwork a breeze. This pattern is written for a 19–21" head circumference, which fits most children and adults, but includes additional hook size to make the hat in different sizes. The pattern directs you to related video tutorials as well. Crochet it using medium worsted weight yarn. Knowledge of chart reading is required. You need to know how to carry yarn, waistcoat stitch and change colors between stitches to achieve this look.  Design by Jennifer Borchert.



Round 1: With (A) make magic ring, ch 1, 10 sc in ring (do NOT tighten), place marker in 1st, move up as worked, do NOT join—10 sc.

Round 2: Working in continuous rounds here and throughout, 2 sc in each around—20 sc.

Round 3: Sc in each around.

* At this point I like to place the “flame” of the candle into the center hole and adjust making sure it fits snugly then I secure and weave in the center yarn tail.

Rounds 4-7: Repeat Round 3.

Round 8 (optional): Repeat Round 3 if needed to fit tealight.

Fasten off, leaving long enough tail for sewing.

WINGS (make 2)

Row 1: With purple ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch, skip 2 ch, sc in next 5 ch, turn (10 sc)

Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 st, skip next two st, sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in last st, turn

Row 3: ch 1, sc in first st, picot (ch 3, sl st in first ch made), sc in next 3 st, hdc in next st, picot, hdc in next st, sc in last 4 st, picot Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Sew the wings on either side of the face on row 5.


Loop a piece of yarn or ribbon through top for hanger, secure.

Insert tea light in center of magic ring, using last round yarn tail, weave tail around last round, tightening to fit snugly around base of tea light, make sure on/off button is still operational. Weave in all ends. Using photo as a guide, glue on the wiggle eyes and use the white fabric paint to make the fangs, red fabric paint for the mouth and black for the eyebrows.

Lighted Angel Ornament - Crochet Pattern

  One of the many Lighted Ornaments in my collection. The Angel ornament is quick, easy and a fantastic stash buster for the holidays. What a cute stocking stuffer or gift topper.  Yarn: Scrap amounts of the following colors in worsted weight yarn.
